YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was released late Saturday night after being detained by Delhi Police ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, according to an official cited in the report. Rathee was detained from his Gurugram residence as police tightened security in Delhi to prevent protesters from reaching the demonstration site. The proposed protest sought the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A police source warned that Rathee could face fresh detention or further legal action if he attempted to reach Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders. Here’s what happened and why the planned CJP protest drew heightened police attention.
